Disasters happen more and more frequently these days, and many times in areas that previously hadn’t experienced such events in the past. Some disasters can come upon you with very short notice and cause massive destruction, so preparation is very important. Some have chosen to put together a “Go-bag” that is easily accessible when you have to leave your home in a hurry. Even if the disaster isn’t as imminent, you could do something to prepare your home for it as well.
Turning off your main supply lines for gas, water and electricity can save your home in a disaster. If you do not do this, it is possible that your home will be completely destroyed by one or more of these utilities being affected by the disaster.
If a storm is coming, it might be worth it to put up boards over your windows, as well, to prevent debris from blowing through them and crushing the glass.
