Spring is here, and that means more time outdoors getting fresh air and exercise! For many parents and grandparents, giving the little ones in their life a place to play outside like a swing set or other playground equipment is a great way to make themselves and the kids happy. But is there anything you should know about your playground equipment that will keep it from being a safety hazard?
In short, it depends on the playground equipment. As an overarching statement, it’s important to carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions and warnings that come with the products you set up. Many of them warn about pinch points, and they may have predefined, required, or recommended specifications for the placement of certain elements. For example, swings are typically required to be at least 24 inches apart, and at least 30 inches from the frame. Of course, there are several common-sense considerations as well, like keeping the ground around the playground equipment free of sharp or otherwise hazardous objects.
