It’s probably safe to say that many homeowners do not think that personal protective equipment (PPE) is needed when they’re working around the house. While it’s true that most of the common household tasks that the average homeowner performs on their property are probably much safer than working on a construction site, it’s also true that those common tasks still present a significant measure of risk.

To protect yourself from injury or even death, spend a minute or two before performing a task to consider what kind of PPE would be good for you to use. For example, if you’re about to spray weed killer, would it be a good idea to wear gloves or a face mask? If you’re about to trim the hedges, would it be a good idea to wear safety glasses? If you’re about to climb a ladder to clean the gutters, would it be a good idea to wear a hard hat?
