There’s nothing like good, homestyle southern cooking. A good recipe can be the pride of an entire community. Unfortunately, a lot of ingredients for the authentic recipes of the south include greasy, fatty foods. Don’t misunderstand – we’re not saying that’s all bad! However, grease and fat do wreak havoc on the average plumbing and septic system.
For that reason, it’s important to never, ever pour cooking grease or other fatty byproducts down your kitchen sink’s drain, or any other plumbing fixture, for that matter. Even if the fat and grease are liquid when it’s poured into the drain, at some point down the line, it will cool down and solidify. Over time, this can cause significant clogging in your plumbing system or even the entire town’s septic system. Instead, let the fat or grease cool on your counter, and then when it’s solid, scrape or wipe it off into the trash can.
